At the invitation of Wideyed, Periskop brought a taste of the ‘Balkan Periskop experience’ – an evening of slideshows on the theme of ‘the social’ – to Sunderland Minster, as part of North East Photography Network’s The Social:Encountering Photography.
Photographers from the Balkan diaspora living in the UK and photographers whose work explores Balkan issues were invited to submit work via an open call. The selected submissions were curated alongside slideshows from Periskop’s impressive catalogue. Culminating in a lively evening of photography, peanuts and 12% proof spirited debate in the pews of Sunderland Minster.
Balkan Periskop was created in February 2012 with the aim of organising cultural events that build bridges across the Balkan region through photography and raise the profile of contemporary Balkan photographers internationally.
