Newsha Tavakolian’s vibrant images document the changing role of women in Iran, showing facets of Middle Eastern life that rarely appear in our media.
For the 2008 edition of the Tees Valley Museums’ Photography Festival, Wideyed produced ‘Sisters in Chanel and Chador’, Newsha’s first solo exhibition in the UK, and toured it in the North East before donating the show to Side Galley’s permanent collection.
Newsha Tavakolian began working as a photographer at the age of 16. Her images have been widely published internationally, and in 2007 she was a finalist for The Inge Morath Award. She is a founding member of EVE Photographers.
